Honeymoon Packages to Oahu

Hawaii Honeymoon Part 4: Oahu

After a very short visit on the Big Island, we hopped yet another small plane over the ocean to visit Oahu.

I have a friend from grad school that lives in Honolulu so she and her family met us at the airport (with fresh lei's!) and then toured us around for a day and half!

We spent the first evening walking around the downtown area- it was super busy!

Every sign, many of the tv stations in the hotel- much of Oahu was catered to Japanese tourists who traveled by the bus loads. Sara said it was like that year round and contributes to the congestion many complain about in Honolulu.

Sara took us to an overlook to see Honolulu at night-so cool!

The next day we were up bright & early to visit Pearl Harbor. Tickets are like on a first come, first served basis and since we were there at the same time as the pro-bowl, we were worried they would run out. But we got there at the perfect time before it was too crowdy.

The oil continues to spill in to the water at the USS Arizona site.

I'm not a huge history buff or war nerd, but visiting Pearl Harbor actually was really cool. They do a great job of not allowing it to be kitschy and cheesy.

After Pearl Harbor we literally drove around the entire island.

We stopped at some food trucks for lunch- SO GOOD and there were more cats and birds in one area than I've ever seen. In fact, much of the Hawaiian islands was home for stray cats!

After lunch we of course stopped for some shaved ice.

And then we continued our driving tour. It was cloudy/rainy most of the day which was a bummer.

We stopped for a little genki sushi before heading the airport and flying home (overnight-it was horrible).

And thus our real (belated) honeymoon trip came to its end.

We could have definitely spent another week out there. I'd add a full 2 weeks on Maui and maybe just a couple more days on the Big Island if I were to do it again (should I be so lucky!)

Who's wedding is this anyway???

by SouthernBlume

My best friend is planning her wedding & I have offered to help her get it together. She's 23 and she's paying for everything on her own. Her budget is $10,000 or less. I suggested a destination wedding in Hawaii, they have resort packages that take care of everything for up to $6,000. She loves the idea and wants to do it. Well, a few of our friends are being really negative towards the idea as well as some membersof his family. Her family loves the idea almost as much as we do. My friend has even offered to pay for his parents ticket.
She's getting married in 2 years so we figured that it would leave them with more than enough time to save up for a ticket and a hotel room & if...
